5 Days / 4 Nights

This trek, listed on the 25 best treks in the world by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine, is a wonderfull option of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Indeed, the Salkantay is the highest mount of the Vilcabamba mountain chain.
To reach it, you’ll cross the most impressive Andin landscapes, where you’ll have a panoramic view over the Andes and the Sacred Valley.

Day 1 / Cusco, Mollepata, Soraypampa

Departure from Cuzco to Mollepata, and then Marcoccasa, starting point of the trek. This village located at 3000 m high has a termpered climate, and an intense vegetation, that reminds the jungle, not so far.. Beginig of the trek with the view over the 2 snow-covered mounts : Tucarhuay (5 217 m) and Salkantay (6 270 m). Camp in Soraypampa (3700m).

Level difference : + 700 m

Day 2 / Soraypampa, Salkantay Pass, Arrayan Pata

Awakening in front of the mount Salkantay. Hard day to come. The hike to the Salkantay pass (4 600 m high) will be the hardest part of the trek. The walk down will allows us to enjoy the jungle on the horizon. Camp in Arrayan Pata (3 450 m high).
Walk duration : Around 8 hours.
Level difference : + 900 m / – 1150 m

Day 3 / Arrayan Pata, Wiñapoco, La Playa

After the previous hard day, walk down a totally different environment, halh jungle, half Andes.
Nice day to discover the wildlife of the region. You will have a moment to relax on the Collpapampa hot springs, the Wiñaypoco waterfalls, and the Santa Teresa river. Camp in La Playa (2 100 m high).
Walk duration : Around 7 hours.
Level difference : – 1350 m

Day 4 / La Playa, Llactapata, Aguascalientes

Walk to the ruins of Llactapata (2650 m high), crossing of the Vilcanota river by a suspension bridge, and then the electric central station, where we have a nice view over the waterfalls ad the Urubamba Valley. We will take the train to Aguas Calientes (2050 m), village before the Machu Picchu.
Walk duration : Around 6 hours.
Level difference : + 550 m / – 700

Day 5 / Aguascalientes, Machu Picchu, Cusco

In the early morning, shuttle to reach the majestic Machu Picchu. Guided tour of the site, listed at the World Wonders. The hike to the Huayna Picchu is possible, to have an incredible view over Machu Picchu. Road back to Aguascalientes and road to cusco by private car.
