The Sol de Oro was the national currency from 1931 to 1985, and was replaced by the Inti until 1991. But its devaluation was so strong that the Nuevo Soles (S/.) (PEN) replaced it to become the new currency (1.000.000 Inti was equal to 1 Nuevo Sol).

US dollars are accepted in most of the big cities stores at the current exchange rate. Euro is accepted in the Exchange offices, that you can find in most cities of the country. Credit card payments : Visa, Master Card, Dîners and American Express are accepted in most shops. The use of traveller’s check is limited.
